Winner of the coveted 2019 structures award for Best green project
By locating an underutilized, derelict building on a prime corner acre lot in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the team was able to create tremendous value by repositioning the asset through change of use and extensive renovations.
The project preserved the existing exterior, and wove in renewable elements. The outside walls remained, allowing the building to retain its old industrial appearance. Koppenhoefer replaced the roof structure to support a new solar plant and any potential wind loads it may encounter.
As a result, they created a headquarters that allowed all three of Elite’s marine-related businesses and its technicians, service managers and administrative personnel to thrive separately, while interacting with each other. Most importantly, the lot’s size allows for future expansion.
